I wanted the speaker to be the primary element of the enclosure with some additional space for a control panel. The panel design ended up looking a little bit like a face to give it a bit of friendliness! The entire enclosure is held together by tensioned paracord with it doubling as a speaker mesh. The pieces were laser cut with the control panel being painted on with black nail polish.
The device uses an IR sensor to translate the distance of the sensor from an object into a musical note. The closer the object, the higher the note. It includes a power/mute button and a volume knob. The paracord was forgiving in some ways but turned out to be unpredictable in its diameter. Overall, I enjoyed using it to hold the entire device together as a surprising detail, but I would change the face place from having holes to slots so it can be pulled apart more easily.
